Sterling, VA, September 14, 2026 –The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) announces the appointment of Cecily Dodge, Caroline Van Howe, Alokita Krishna, Alex Reed, Brandon Smith, and Sean Thomas to the IACET Council on Standards Development (the Council).
The Council governs IACET’s standards development process and ensures conformance with the ANSI Essential Requirements, safeguarding due process, openness, balance, consensus, and the right of appeal. Its role is to ensure the standards development framework remains credible, transparent, and accountable.
“We are pleased to welcome these professionals to the Council and to continue working with returning members whose service has already contributed to IACET’s standards development efforts,” said Randy Bowman, President & CEO of IACET. “Together, they bring experience in standards development, governance, compliance, instructional design, accreditation, and continuing education and training that will support the Council’s consensus-driven work and the continued integrity and relevance of the ANSI/IACET Standard.”
The appointed members bring a range of experience and perspectives to the Council. Dodge, an On-Demand Training Developer with ASTM International, brings six years of experience supporting standards-based education and IACET requirements, along with three years of Council service that has included work on its Policies and Procedures and Education subcommittees. Van Howe brings extensive experience in Council governance and compliance, including leadership of the Audit Sub-Committee, service as an IACET Commissioner and Peer Reviewer since 2017, and 18 years of operational leadership with the Assistive Technology Industry Association.
Krishna contributes a background spanning regulatory governance, compliance, and continuing education and training, including provider-side experience aligning learning programs, documentation, and processes with accreditation and licensing requirements, as well as current work designing governance frameworks and internal controls for regulated organizations. Her experience also brings a cross-border perspective to standards and compliance. Reed brings experience from both sides of standards-based quality, having led an organization’s IACET Authorized Training Provider compliance framework for more than six years and served since 2022 as Alternate Chair of the ANSI/ASSP Z490.1 Committee, contributing to the development and revision of the national standard for safety, health, and environmental training.
Smith, a Senior Instructional Designer with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, contributes expertise in competency-based learning, instructional design, assessment, learning technology, and continuing education. A returning Council member, he has completed a full term and brings additional leadership experience across IACET and the broader talent development profession. Thomas, Director of Training Programs for the American Petroleum Institute, brings extensive experience translating technical standards into education and training. He led API’s implementation of the IACET Standard, participates in API standards committees, and serves on ANSI’s Committee on Education, bringing direct experience with both ANSI-accredited standards development and standards-based training.
With these appointments, the Council continues to strengthen IACET’s commitment to a credible, globally informed, and ANSI-compliant standards development process that brings together perspectives from standards development, accreditation, governance, compliance, and the practical delivery of continuing education and training
