October 20, 2021 8:30 AM – October 21, 2021 4:00 PM EST

This two and a half-day, instructor-led course will provide you with the basics of open digital badging and give you the opportunity to present your finished prototype badge and a detailed implementation plan. The first day is designed to you a foundation built on theory and solid design principles. You will delve deeper into the open digital badging ecosystem through an interactive session that helps you design and develop an operational badging program within your organization. Four weeks later, you will have the opportunity to showcase your open digital badge and detailed plans for a badging program. In this final half-day session, you will have 15 minutes to present your finished badge and plans for further program development and to see other participants' progress. At the end of this session, you will be assessed on proficiency based on instructor evaluation of the open digital badge and proposed program.

By the end of this course, you will be able to do the following:

  • Define a badging platform and recognize its purpose
  • Explain the need for unique evidence to support the purpose of the badge
  • Recognize how curricular design allows portability and shareability across multiple media
  • Outline how stackability contributes to a digital portfolio of accomplishments and learning recognition
  • Identify how to work with metadata to streamline some processes while producing evidence-rich credentials
  • Develop a prototype badge
  • Design and implement an open digital badge using a badging platform

To successfully complete this course, you must attend all three sessions, actively participate, and present your open digital badge/system for verification of proficiency.

Presentation day: Wednesday, December 1, 2021
