Authorized Providers (APs) are organizations that meet IACET's internationally recognized continuing education and training standards and therefore may award IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs).Learn more >

Task Force effort commissioned by the U.S. Bureau of Education
- Feasibility of measuring noncredit activities in Continuing Education
1970
Term “CEU” was standardized as 10 hours
- 10 contact hours
1974
Continuing Education Unit Criteria and Guidelines published
- Conditions under which CEUs could be awarded
1977
Council on the Continuing Education Unit
- Encouraged to become a certifying body
1984
Principles of Good Practice in Continuing Education
1990
International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)
- A membership organization with International members
1992
Certified Provider Program implemented
1998
The Certified Provider Program developed into the Authorized Provider Program
- Standards raised and IACET CEU created
2003
Distance Learning Guidelines integrated into the Criteria
2004
LSU Program
- License the use of copyrighted IACET Standards to non-profit corporations, associations, or government agencies
- Use them as the basis of continuing education and/or training standards specific to their fields of expertise
2005
IACET Council for Standards Development (ICSD) formed
2006
Approved as American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standards Developer
2007
- Part of US delegation to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) TC232
- IACET Standards approved by ANSI on October 5
2008
IACET introduces new ANSI/IACET Standards and Authorized Provider application
