The IACET Council on Standards Development

The IACET Council on Standards Development (ICSD) was approved as an ANSI Standards Developer on January 12, 2006.  The Council was formed to simplify the existing IACET Criteria Guidelines and Required Practices, remove any disconnects, remove any duplications and develop them into a set of standards for approval as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).  This activity was accomplished in October of 2007 and IACET now holds the American National Standard for a quality process in Continuing Education and Training.

The ICSD meets regularly, once a month by teleconference and proceedings are open to any member wishing to participate.  Current emphasis is being placed on complete understanding of the standards package, providing clear interpretations of IACET standards and creating a basis for consistent application. Their current activities have been focused on assisting with and ensuring that the AP Providers Application and Workshop are aligned with the ANSI approved standards and on developing a crosswalk between the former IACET Criteria Guidelines and Required Practices and the new standards for existing members.  This crosswalk will be available shortly and will be provided to all members for their information and use.

At a future time, the ICSD will provide the ability for information exchange and ensuring that interpretations of the standards are consistently applied.  They will also consider any new information that is generated by research in the field and revise the standards, when necessary, to ensure that the quality process is maintained at the highest level.  Research considered by the Council in development of the Standards can be found at here.

In order to operate efficiently, the Council developed a set of Strategic Goals and Action Plans in April of 2006 using the IACET Vision as guidance and aligning their goals with the IACET Strategic Goals and the U.S. Department of Education goals for Continuing Education and Training.
